Masters Lacrosse started in 1988 in Prince George, when 4 teams, the Vancouver Coasters, Okanagan Masters, P.G. Blues and P.G. Old Stylers took part in the inaugural provincial Championships. The Okanagan team defeated the Coasters 8-7 in the championship game. Bruce Long who was one of the tournament organizers was named as the first commissioner of the BC lacrosse Association's Masters Division.

For the next two years ( 1989 and 1990 ), the annual championships were hosted byPrince George with the number of teams being increased to five.
