2001, pretty mixed up year for the New West teams. Dean couldn't get
time off, half the 'B' guys couldn't commit to the weekend and the 'C'
team ended up with 9 runners on opening day. Who would of guessed the
'B' team would evolve into the New West Storm??? a week before the tournament and who would have thought that the 'C' team would end up
with New Westminster's name on the Stan Shillington trophy. And how
come nobody took any team pictures? I didn't get or keep any information on the 'Storm' team, but they probably like it like that anyway. (oh well, next year) As for the 'C' team, this star reporter was there to cover the action even though he couldn't play due to injury. He really wanted to, he tried, even as his biggest fan said "you crazy dumb #&*+.
We picked up some help, thanks to Rick Rathy for taking a few hacks and
remembering not to tell me that I told him that this was the sportsman division. As the tradition goes we had a couple of 1st year rookies and everyone was involved on the scoresheet. Mike McIntosh had a couple of assists and at least one shot on goal, that was his dangerous shot penatly. Rick Henderson and Steve Servic brought their blistering speed that helped win a couple of games as well. I have to give high marks to PoCo goalie, Marty, for keeping them in the final game and a great big thank you to our goalie, Harry Preston, for stopping just about everything and giving us the win in the final and his asking price was only 2 beer a game. I want to thank Don Brown for opening up his home to all the homeless players and giving them a place to have a beer and talk about what fantastic games they had. We will be in Ladner next year to defend our title, see you all there.
