As far as I can remember, the New Westminster Masters Lacrosse Club was started by Wayne Bellwood, in 1991, who
after having a great time playing for Prince George in the tournament the year before, decided that he would try
and raise a team from the New Westminster area. Twelve teams competed in the first Canadian Masters Championship
held in Port Coquitlam. This was the first year that an "A","B" and "C" division format was employed. I personally,
have fond memories of that July long weekend in 1991. It was the first year that I played the game of Lacrosse in
my life. We had Joe Comeau in goal, Wayne Bellwood, Martin Bellwood, Ross Bellwood, Joe O'Malley, Dan Richardson,
Harry Ferguson, Wayne Leason, Ivan Turra, Brian Pedersen, Dave Thwaites, Glen Rigby, Bob Rezansoff, Fred Cirillo
and Bob MacAloney. Our Honorary captain was Wayne Goss. Sid Bellwood was our trainer and Mike Bellwood helped run
the bench. We played in the "A" division and got battered and bruised, but I had the thrill of playing with and
against some of the best players who ever played in the Western Lacrosse Association. The following year in 1992,
the tournament was played in Vernon and we had more new faces on the team. We played in the "A" division and I
remember our firstgame that weekend was played on a Thursday night at the Armstrong Arena. We had to pick up some
extra players, as most of our team couldn't get up there until Friday. Needless to say, we gave it our best shots
but didn't win that night. Ivan Turra had 5. Glen Rigby picked up our first ever penalty that weekend.
